Welcome to a part of my soul~
I began writing devotionals my first year on the mission field in Nicaragua as a way to stay connected with a group of co-workers who longed to hear an encouraging word. Little did I know that I needed to hear those same encouraging words. Life on the mission field can be hard and I found many days that I was just struggling to survive. I love my times with the LORD and have a desire to share what He reveals to me during my quiet time. Come on in, sit back with a hot cup of coffee or cold glass of sweet tea and pull out your Bible so we can share about His love for us.
My prayer is that God's word will bless you and give you hope for today as we learn to daily surrender our lives, our families and our desires to Jesus.
Joy in My Heart
Today is your heart filled with joy or sorrow? I know of so many friends today that because of their circumstances, their heart is filled with sorrow. Sorrow for the loved ones that have gone on to be with Jesus.
I have been afraid for my life before. It is a feeling I can’t quite put into words but I will try. Many of you may not know that 20 years ago I endured a very traumatic thing in my life.
I came across a link to a book that hit the stands on December 30, 2104, Living Well, Spending Less by Ruth Soukup. This book has intrigued me because as foreign missionaries, we are constantly trying to live well and spend less. We have to raise our own monthly living expenses as well as our ministry expenses, so we are truly relying on Faith.
This week we have been talking to our kids about their prayer time and how we need to listen to what we are really saying to God during that time. I know children see life so differently than we do as adults but I also know that Jesus gave us the perfect example of a life of prayer.
As we enter Good Friday, may we be reminded of the importance of this day. If you know anything about this day in Biblical history, then you may be saying there is nothing good about this day.
Where Do You Find Your Strength
I know that we all have those days where it seems the world is caving in on us. Are you having one of those days today? You may be saying, no I am having one of those weeks or months or even years. We can all relate!
So many times we find ourselves in situations that we can’t seem to remain silent. It is like the words just fly out of our mouth and we have no control over what we just said. But, we do have control over what comes out of our mouth.
As I drive through this third world country every day I am reminded of the poor and the hungry, the needy and the orphaned. It is a cold reality here in Nicaragua that we see every single day.
Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you. Can you remember the last time someone was kind to you? I can remember so vividly our first two years on the mission field. Whew!
